Brenna O'Neill's dedication to physical therapy was deeply influenced by her personal and professional experiences. Her interest in the field began early, inspired by watching her grandmother undergo physical and occupational therapy following a severe stroke. This personal connection to rehabilitation, combined with her own experiences as a college lacrosse player who suffered a back injury, solidified her commitment to helping others recover from injuries.
Growing up as a soccer player and later coaching NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse, Brenna witnessed firsthand the struggles athletes face with injuries and rehabilitation. This unique perspective as both an athlete and coach fueled her desire to specialize in sports rehabilitation, particularly for female athletes.
Brenna pursued her academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lebanon Valley College in 2018. She continued her education at Florida Southern College, where she earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in December 2022. Her academic achievements are a testament to her dedication to the field and her drive to make a difference in the lives of her patients.
During her time at Florida Southern, Brenna also made significant contributions as a coach for the women’s lacrosse team, leading them to two Elite 8 appearances and one Final Four appearance. This experience not only honed her leadership skills but also deepened her understanding of the physical demands placed on athletes and the importance of effective rehabilitation.
Professionally, Brenna has worked for two years in Florida in mixed outpatient clinics, where she gained extensive experience treating post-surgical patients, including those recovering from ACL reconstructions, total knee arthroplasties (TKA), and total shoulder arthroplasties (TSA and rTSA). She also developed expertise in managing vestibular conditions and treating a small percentage of neurological patients, particularly those recovering from strokes.
Brenna's specialties include working with lacrosse players, female athletes, and individuals suffering from lower back pain. Her comprehensive approach to rehabilitation is informed by her background as an athlete, coach, and physical therapist, allowing her to provide tailored care that addresses the specific needs of her patients.
Brenna is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and has been recognized for her coaching achievements as part of the IWLCA South Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2023.
Brenna O'Neill’s career is marked by a blend of personal experience, academic excellence, and professional dedication. Her journey from athlete and coach to a skilled physical therapist reflects her unwavering commitment to supporting others in their recovery and helping them return to the activities they love.
