Sofia Bowers’ passion for physical therapy stems from her own long history as an athlete and her personal experience with sports injuries. Having faced the physical and mental challenges of being sidelined from sports, Sofia developed a deep appreciation for the role that physical therapy plays in recovery. Her firsthand experience with rehabilitation inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to helping athletes recover and return to the sports they love.
Sofia grew up in Frederick County, Maryland, where she attended high school before moving to Pennsylvania to continue her education at Lebanon Valley College (LVC). She earned both her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from LVC. During her time there, Sofia was also a member of the women’s basketball team, which further fueled her interest in exercise, strength training, and injury prevention. Her background in athletics has given her valuable insight into the unique needs of student-athletes, as well as the physical and emotional challenges of playing competitive sports.
In her final year of physical therapy school, Sofia completed her clinical rotations with True Sports Physical Therapy, where she gained invaluable hands-on experience working with athletes. This opportunity allowed her to learn from some of the best sports physical therapists on the East Coast, and helped her apply the academic knowledge she gained at LVC to real-world scenarios. Since then, Sofia has had the privilege of working with collegiate, high school, and youth athletes to address a wide range of sports-related injuries and conditions, further refining her skills as a physical therapist.
Since joining True Sports in January 2024, Sofia has developed a special interest in treating knee injuries, both surgical and non-surgical. Her own experience with chronic knee conditions has given her a unique empathy for patients going through the rehabilitation process. Additionally, she has developed a passion for treating athletic low back injuries, particularly in rotational athletes like lacrosse and baseball players—populations she frequently encountered during her time at True Sports.
Sofia is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and regularly participates in journal clubs to stay up to date on evidence-based practices. She is committed to continuous learning and professional development, frequently engaging with experienced therapists and health professionals to refine her approach and stay current with the latest treatment methods for athletes.
Sofia Bowers’ career is a reflection of her deep-rooted connection to athletics and her commitment to helping others overcome the challenges of injury. Her unique perspective as both an athlete and therapist enables her to provide specialized care that addresses the physical and emotional needs of her patients.
